Posting and Leading Rides
As we move forward with our spring 2011 ride calendar, I recommend that we ALL use the following designations for our rides. I have learned from riding over 25 years that posting an average speed for a ride is pointless. . .it doesn't help people decide if a ride is appropriate and it doesn't really help the ride leader(s) manage a posted ride.
Since ride leaders take on the added responsibility of "leader," we need to have some ground rules that everyone can expect, thus raising the likelihood that more of us can enjoy and gain from each ride.
Guidelines:
A Ride
Expect attack zones and an overall high average.
Do NOT expect regrouping, even for mechanicals.
ALL riders must know the route and have adequate equipment (including a cell phone).
NOT appropriate for beginning riders.
B Ride
Expect a steady moderate-to-challenge pace with experienced riders.
Regroups likely, especially for mechanicals and after challenging sections (such as extended climbs).
Strong riders should expect to adjust to group ability.
ALL riders should know the route and have adequate equipment (including a cell phone).
Beginning riders CAUTIONED.
C Ride
Expect a moderate to casual pace that fits the abilities of the group.
ALL riders must regroup at ALL turns. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND.
ALL riders should know the route and have adequate equipment (including a cell phone).
Beginning riders WELCOMED and encouraged.
